YOUTH

Senior High Youth Group

~~~ Kristine’s Korner ~~~
The Sr. High Youth Group is soon coming to an end for the school year – but not after a few outstanding events to help close a great year! At the beginning of May – we joined together for a little mini golf action in Como Park! It was one of the first beautiful days of spring! Merrick proved his skills to be the mini-golf champ for the night!
The group ended the evening with a quick trip to the Grand Ole Creamery!
On May 14th – the Sr. High Youth Group joined their fellow Confirmand pals at the Feed My Starving Children (FMSC)        location in Eagan. FMSC is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s starving children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: volunteers of all ages hand-pack meals designed especially for starving children, and FMSC ships the meals to more than 50 countries around the world. Our St. Paul’s UCC group joined forces with members of other organizations and made enough meals to feed 45 children for an entire year!
It was a great way to spend the evening by giving back to those in need.
Welcome Bob Fellows
The Council accepted the recommendation from the Search Committee to hire Bob Fellows as our Director of Christian Education
(very part-time 12 hours a week).
Bob is the former Youth Director at Edina Morningside Community Church and two other UCC churches. He is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School
and United Theological Seminary.
Bob has also been a magician,
yoga teacher, and public speaker on health and wellness topics.
Bob will help us continue to build our Christian education opportunities particularly with a focus on children
and adult programming.  Why have
we added a staff member during this challenging economic time?  Because we believe the ministry of passing on the great faith of the Christian tradition is vital now and always in every circumstance.  How can we do less?
We are growing through our educational programming, both spiritually and in numbers of people!
Looking for Musicians for Children's Worship
St. Paul’s makes no secret of its appreciation of music as a vital aspect of worship.  Incorporating simple, traditional hymns into the order of Children’s Worship is a short term goal that I’m eagerly working toward.  I need you help.
Since I’m not a trained musician, I hope to draw on the musical resources at St. Paul’s congregation.  I’m seeking teenagers and parents who can play musical instruments and accompany our singing.  Volunteers will receive sheet music in advance of the upcoming Sunday’s Children’s Worship.  On the given Sunday you volunteer, you’ll leave the main service with me and the children and remain with us through the conclusion of worship.
Please contact me via my personal email address at patriciamckee@netzero.net to volunteer and if you have questions.  Many thanks, Patricia McKee, Director of Children’sWorship.
Confirmation Retreat
Our five confirmands, Abby, Mackenzie, Samantha, Taylor and Tommy, will join Pastor Norma Rae for a two-day retreat at the Hunt Hobby Farm in Barron County, Wisconsin, August 7 - 9.   In retirement, Norma Rae’s parents Ray and Bea have developed a 40-acre hobby farm on ancestral land owned by three generations of the family.  They’ve built a house, carriage house and stable.  Several acres are fenced for their draft horses, “Nellie, Hans, and Dollie” and of course they keep very busy haying in the summer, to feed these big lovable pets in the winter.  There is a tractor and hay wagon to make it truly a working farm.
Located just southeast of the town of Barron, the farm is in the rolling hills of Wisconsin.  We’ll visit an Amish Farmer’s Market, an Organic Valley Dairy Farm owned by the neighboring Christiansen family, boat on the little Cedar River, (weather   permitting) and catch a swim at the recreation center in town.
The group will take turns in meal set-up and clean up, leading in morning and evening vespers and singing around the campfire under the star-studded sky.
Bring back memories?    If you spent summer time visiting family in the country or simply went to summer camp, you know the power of nature to bring us closer to God.  Count on a photo display to record our Confirmation Retreat  adventures.
